13.1: The Beginning

Today, I decided I want to run a half marathon before I leave for the mish. I'm debating between either the Provo Half (May 7th) or the State Capitol Half (May 30th). I have a feeling it's probably going to end up being the State Capitol one...which would be SWEET! The route looks like it would be pretty awesome (there's trail running!), but a bit hilly. I guess I should start brainwashing myself into loving hills.
I love hills, I love hills, I love hills!
Theoretically, I will have 6 weeks of training before the Provo Half (which is why I'm thinking the State Capitol one would be a wise decision...then I will have 9 weeks of training!)
I like this idea. A lot.
My run today was quite the adventure. It was a blustery day and rather chilly (about 45 degrees with wind chill). I went about 3.5 miles today and it took me 28 minutes and 51 seconds. It was hard. The wind not my friend today. I think I now know what it must feel like to be the victim of suffocation.
Once I made it home, I collapsed on my front porch for about 5 minutes and then cooled down. I felt good after my cool down and decided to do a few sprints as well. Those were SO much fun! (sigh) I miss doing interval workouts.
My right ankle didn't bother me too much today either-which was great! I can tell my right achilles is not a happy camper though. It's pretty tight. Note to self: stretch better.
IT band problems that have plagued me for the past 2 years weren't terrible either. I could definitely tell it was still there, but nothing like it's been in the past.
I'm just so happy to be running again! :D

Happy International Waffle Day!

Yesterday was International Waffle Day!
March honestly has the best random holidays. Period. Oh how I love March!
March 1=International Pancake Day, March 14=Pi Day, March 17=Green/Leprechaun Day, March 20=the first day of Spring, March 22=two of my most favorite people's birthdays, March 25=International Waffle Day!
I found some history about International Waffle Day in a magazine I was reading a while back:
Waffle Day was originally the Christian Feast of Annunciation called Varfruaagen in Sweden. Varfruaagen happens to sound a whole lot like Vaffeldagan, which is Swedish for Waffle Day, so it became tradition for Swedes to make waffles as part of their religious celebration.
The first waffles were actually made in Greece.
America celebrates National Waffle Day on August 25. I guess some people get all tied up about celebrating International Waffle Day in March, but I really don't understand what the problem is. Instead of one day, there are two days that you can bust out the waffle irons! However, if I could have things my way, I would mandate that there should be a waffle day celebration at least once a month. Maybe once a week. I love my waffles; and pancakes.
Yesterday I celebrated International Waffle Day with two of my wonderful friends, Tatjana and Lis...as a girl's night out sort of thing. It was fantastic! Maple syrup, strawberries, whipped cream, raspberry syrup, peanut butter, etc. It was divine.
Mmmmm!

Vitamin D: The Unsung Superhero

I'm taking a nutrition pathophysiology course this semester and we are learning about neurological disorders this week. My professor gave us this article to review. I thought it was AWESOME. So, I decided to share the awesomeness.
Follow the link and prepare to have your mind blown. Mine was. Who knew Vitamin D was so great? I sure didn't.
Yes, this confirms my nerd-esque-ness. I am okay with that.

Dear Blogging World,

Well, after pushing aside some serious rationalization about why I should never concede to blog, I decided to give in and join in with all of you fellow bloggers out there.
I still don't know how I feel about it.
I suppose it would be appropriate to introduce myself though.
My name is Amber.
I work at a dentist office and I love it.
I am a student at Weber State University studying Dental Hygiene with a minor in Nutrition Education (which is really a pointless minor, but hey, I love learning about nutrition and such so it has worked out quite nicely). Go to school to learn something you love!
I want  to go to graduate school someday to become a Registered Dietitian after I finish my dental hygiene degree.
I enjoy taking tests. Finals week is generally a good week for me.
My favorite food is...hmm...probably burritos. I love burritos. Mmmmm!
I love fruit. Blackberries are the most wonderful fruit created. This statement is not up for debate. Strawberries, oranges, peaches, raspberries, and blueberries are also quite wonderful.
My top three favorite movies are: The Sound of MusicIt's a Wonderful Life, and Chariots of Fire
Favorite Music: Muse is my favorite. After that, there is a whole plethora of stuff that I love listening to. As of recent, my favorites have been Regina Spektor (Love her to death. Her lyrics, plus the piano, plus her voice=one of the best musical combinations your ears will ever hear), Mindy Gledhill, Noah and the Whale (NATW), Mumford and Sons, and Florence + Machine.
I find great joy in running outside in the sunshine (or the rain), playing the piano, making attempts to play the geeeeetar (guitar), pretending I know how to play soccer, laughing myself sick because pretending to play soccer is that hilarious, spending time with my family and friends, playing games (card, board, etc.), boating, flying kites, hiking, and most everything really. I am easily entertained.
I live in Utah.
I am a Mormon.
I recently decided after nearly a year and half of pondering and praying about what to do with my life to take a break from school, work, boys, and everything I love to go and do something to show my love for others; and for my church: serve a mission for the Mormon Church.
I recently put my mission papers in and even more recently received my mission call to Raleigh, North Carolina. I will be leaving this June and will serve as a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the next year and half there.
I am completely ecstatic to have this opportunity to serve others and share to Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
I love knowing that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is hard-core true.
That is all.
